Waking up on what amounts to cushioned pillows on the floor isn't a comfortable experience, but I've slept in worse places. My arms stretch, seeking Lyric. Her small body is gone, missing from the nest completely.

Checking the apartment, I determine, she's gone. Texting B team, I verify her whereabouts. Their response is instant, she's been on the roof, again. However, she's on her way back down to the penthouse with a guest in tow.

My lip curls, I wasn't especially fond of her company the other night. She smelled off, not the overpowering aroma of her arousal. I'm fairly certain it was her body processing whatever drugs she took. It wasn't overly noticeable, but it changed her scent enough, I hated it.

The alpha she was with, might or might not have had anything to do with her strange behavior that night. I remind myself.

Refusing to stand around waiting like an angry parent, I head for the shower in the guest room. I'm not counting down the minutes for my child to get home past curfew.

Angrily scrubbing my body doesn't help. Heat and moisture unfurl around me as I exit the shower. Dressing quickly in sweats and a t-shirt, I pace around the frilly guest bedroom. My frustration hasn't lessened. I'm disappointed in myself for pushing Lyric too far earlier.

This is on me. Not Lyric. How can I blame anyone else? I literally pushed her away. Being too forceful, trying to make her see my point. That wasn't my intention, she's miserable without Ryder.

We're all worried about her, for good reason. Lyric puts on a brave face, but she's different from the girl I met in the U.K. all those months ago. Hell, she barely noticed me those first few weeks. Her eyes always followed Ryder St. James. The devotion was plain to see and it sure as shit, appeared to be mutual.

Shaking my head, I aim for Lyric's gym. It's a few doors down from the guest rooms, but still on this side of the penthouse.

That way, there's no possible way I'll overhear Lyric with that guy from the other night.

Burning aggression pounds through my system as I climb on the treadmill. I'm not used to feeling jealousy. The tang of bitterness unfamiliar in my gut. Then again, I sent her straight out of my arms to someone else.

I really fucked this up.

My feet pound against the deck as I increase the pace and incline. Before long, I'm in the zone and focusing on how to correct the situation instead of wallowing in guilt and self doubt. Both are useless emotions unless you're willing to take action and correct the problem.

Sweat beads on my forehead. My t-shirt sticks to my chest and back, slick with sweat. As I pace myself down, my brain runs through options.

Lyric hasn't been the same since things ended with Ryder. As she explained this situation and why she left, I could see things from her point of view. Going into their relationship both the men she'd trusted abruptly departed from her life.
